Death Toll Increases in Indonesia’s Central Java Landslide

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from a landslide that hit Indonesia’s Central Java province has climbed to 11, while 12 individuals are still unaccounted for as rescue operations persist on Sunday, an official reported.

M. Abdullah, the head of the Search and Rescue Office in Cilacap—the area impacted by the landslide—stated that authorities are intensifying their efforts to locate the remaining 12 victims after recovering 11 deceased.

"Hopefully, all 12 victims who are still buried can be found," he remarked, as cited by a local broadcaster.

Abdullah noted that during Sunday’s search mission, his team deployed hundreds of personnel along with several heavy-duty machines, including excavators.

"We have deployed 21 excavators, 17 compressor support tools, nine search dogs, and more than 600 personnel," Abdullah explained.

Earlier, on Friday, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency indicated that 20 people were missing and three had been confirmed dead following the landslide in Cilacap on Thursday.
