Indonesia Landslide Death Toll Increases

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from last week’s landslide in Indonesia has increased to 64, while search and rescue teams entered their eighth day of operations to locate 16 people still missing in West Java, a news agency reported on Saturday.

According to officials, four additional victims were pulled from the disaster site, raising the confirmed death count to 64. At the same time, approximately 16 individuals remain unaccounted for, said Ade Dian Permana, the head of the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency.

Permana noted that rescue activities have continued into the eighth day, with operations supported by sniffer dogs and heavy machinery. A total of around 3,675 personnel have been mobilized to assist in the ongoing mission.

Authorities stated that 49 bodies have so far been identified and returned to their families, while 75 people have been successfully rescued alive.

The landslide hit a village in West Bandung regency last Saturday, engulfing dozens of houses beneath thick layers of mud and rubble.

Rescue efforts remain underway in the impacted zone, where challenging terrain continues to complicate search and recovery operations.
