Indonesia Landslide Death Toll Hits 64 as Search Continues

(MENAFN) The death count from a devastating landslide that struck Indonesia last week has surged to 64, with rescue teams entering their eighth consecutive day of operations searching for 16 individuals still unaccounted for in West Java, a state-run news agency reported Saturday.

Recovery crews extracted four additional bodies from the disaster site, pushing the confirmed fatality figure to 64, while approximately 16 people remain missing, according to Ade Dian Permana, head of the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency.

The search operation persisted into its eighth day, Permana stated, with teams deploying tracker dogs and heavy machinery alongside a massive force of roughly 3,675 personnel working the site.

Authorities have successfully identified 49 of the recovered bodies, which have been returned to grieving families, while 75 individuals were pulled from the debris alive.

Dozens of Homes Buried Under Mud and Debris
The catastrophic landslide hammered a village in West Bandung regency last Saturday, entombing dozens of residential structures beneath torrents of mud and wreckage.

Rescue and recovery operations continue across the affected zone, where challenging topography complicates search efforts.
